Peer Pressure

I was looking over the paper from last Friday and I read an article on 5 people doing one of the most stupidest things I've ever heard of. Apparently they stole a shot gun from a locked police car and traded it for drugs. The police said that "based on the evidence the sherrif's department was able to obtain a search warrant and the rifle was located as well as other fire arms and a large amount of drugs." For some reason, this reminds me of all the talks of peer pressure I've recieved over the years. These people were probably mixed up in the wrong crowd and they obviously didn't listen to all the lectures in school. I remember my PE coach always telling me to "just say no" to things that I didn't feel comfortable doing. This probably wasn't the first time any of these people have had charges against them, but because they've gone down the wrong path their life is going to consist of making bad choices and being in jail. I feel bad for people like that, but maybe they should have listened to all the lessons we recieved when we were younger.

Need For Speed

I'm a pretty new driver, and unfortunately I've already recieved 2 speeding tickets. I was reading an article about a study that revealed that only 3% of car accidents are caused by speeding drivers. The text makes a good point when it says "There are nearly 7,000 speed cameras across the country which are unable to detect 'careless or reckless' drivers who cause three times as many accidents." This doesn't make much sense to me. Why are we worrying so much about people speeding instead of trying to hammer down on all the irresponsible drivers actually causing the accidents? I see police cars sitting on the side of the road trying to catch people speeding just about everyday. In my opinion, they should really be sitting outside bars every night waiting for drunken adults trying to drive home drunk. Statistics are very important to me, and the stats say that "16 per cent of all road deaths are a result of drunk driving." That's a lot more than speeding drivers. I personally wish that police officers would pay a little more attention to the people actually causing the problem, instead of everyday citizens driving a little over the speed limit.
