First World Problems

Yesturday, my mother randomly asked me if I'd like to go to Hawaii for spring break. The usual thoughts that come to mind when I think of Hawaii are the white beaches, the beautiful water, and all the tan guys bringing me endless food. But then I started thinking... What about the sharks?  I was reading about a man that lost his index finger and recieved a bad bite to his thigh from an attack by a bull shark. One of the witnesses says, "It's always surprising to have a shark attack because there is such a low risk generally of shark attacks, but it's not uncommon in that area for shark activity." I know that the chances of a shark attack are low, but I'm still undecided if the tan guys with food are really worth the risk. A lifegaurd states, "If people could swim at patrolled locations it at least gives us an opportunity to get people clear of the water if there is a shark in the vicinity." Maybe if I take some precautions like only swimming in the safe zones, I won't get attacked by a shark if one decides to swim up. After reading this article, I've decided that I will still allow my mom to take me to Hawaii but I'll make sure that everyone in my family knows that we are ONLY swimming in the safe swimming zones. :)
